The city of Brno pursuing its development, fortunately does not stand alone. The Regional Operational Programme (ROP) South-East is a major supporter thanks to which the Regional Council of South-East solidarity have helped the development of Brno City with 250 million CZK. For the purposes of the development projects of the Statutory City of Brno, 250 million CZK from ROP South-East have been gained to this date. Additional 625 million CZK will be paid to Brno City for the ongoing projects. The approved grant from ROP South-East will help Brno City development with nearly 850 million CZK. Recently, two IUDP (Integrated Urban Development Plan) for the Regional Operational Programme NUTS II South-East have been created – a comprehensive regeneration of the historic centre including the development of tourism services, improving public services and expanding public amenities. An IUDP for Integrated Operational Programme has been designed – an integrated development plan for problematic residential area in Brno. Completion of this programme is a condition for disbursement of funds from the ROP South-East within the support of Development of urbanization centres. € 81,511,404 have been allocated for this area for the programming period 2007 – 2013.

Successful Brno City Projects Funded by ROP South-East

Brno's Underground Opens for Public

The first part of Brno's underground – Mintmaster Cellar was opened in November 2010 and its second part – Labyrinth under Zelný trh in April of this year. Both sections immediately became the most popular tourist attractions of the Brno City. The Labyrinth under Zelný trh offers a tour through unique and mysterious corners, medieval passages, and cellars. The project was supported by the ROP South-East with a grant of 62 million CZK.

Moravské Náměstí and Běhounská Street

One of the major reconstruction projects of public spaces in Brno was the restoration of a part of Moravské náměstí and Běhounská street which was officially opened in September last year. Thanks to the project, the square was transformed into a pedestrian zone and car parking areas were reduced. Nowadays, there is more greenery and places where to sit and relax than in the past. The reconstruction of Moravian Square was supported by the ROP South-East with 73 million CZK.

Emergency Care Service for Elderly and Disabled in Brno

The City of Brno will be granted 11 million CZK from the ROP South-East to establish an emergency service for the elderly and disabled people. The service will be available constantly for mediation of urgent help in cases of emergency. This kind of service was missing In Brno as well as in the whole South Moravian Region.

Developing Network of Cycle Routes in Brno

ROP South-East contributed with almost 30 million CZK to the development of cycle routes in the Brno City. The programme supported a reconstruction of two sections of main cycle routes in unsatisfactory conditions, i.e. the section of the confluence of Svratka and Svitava and the section Komín Sokolovna – Veslařská.

Beringie

Under this name is hiding one of the largest development projects of the Brno Zoo. A new exhibition inviting visitors into a romantic Nordic nature world imitating Bering Strait was open last year. Beringie was created under the support of ROP South-East which granted 45 million CZK.

Regeneration and Enhanced Services at 'Špilberk', a National Cultural Monument

The project is focused on improving attractiveness of Špilberk castle especially for the city visitors. Parts of the castle which require repair or are closed to public will undergo a reconstruction. This project entails a major reconstruction of the south wing to facilitate a new layout-communication solution of the whole castle and improvement of visitor services. ROP South-East will support the repair of this remarkable monument with 42 million CZK.
